Description

The Montreal Diocesan Theological College and Montreal School of Theology is seeking to fill its internship positions that will be supporting local community organizations across the city of Montreal with its Montreal Mission Internship program.

This is a paid internship that is 9-weeks long for young people from ages 18 to 25 years old who are keen on exploring a call to Christian ministry beyond the walls of the church, stretching their faith, and challenging themselves to discover where God is at work in difficult places. Interns will put their faith into action while witnessing the realities of the marginalized. They will be confronted by God’s call against the backdrop of one of Canada’s most vibrant, diverse, and pluralistic cities. The program is demanding, and yet energizing. It will be challenging, and life-giving all at once. Interns will receive financial compensation and are expected to go into their placement with an attitude to work. They are also expected remain open to learn from the challenges God sets before them. The internship has three main elements:

Service

The service-learning placement is the heart of the internship. It is an opportunity to explore what it means to serve God in the world. Interns are placed in one of the many community-service organizations in Montreal responding to, for instance, homelessness, food insecurity, or migration. These placements are carefully chosen and arranged based on the participants’ interests, the quality of supervision, and the availability of meaningful work. These are paid positions.

Reflection

The community of interns meets as a group on a weekly basis for learning and reflection. They take experiences from their placements and reflect on them in a practical and theological fashion, challenging interns to shift and strengthen their faith and walk with God and helping them find their place as participants in God’s work.

Discernment

Weekly group meetings support interns to hear God’s voice and calling. Interns support each other as they each discern their unique gifts and help each other through shared challenges with the support of program staff members.  It is our hope that our interns leave the program with a sense of vocation and a deeper understanding of how they can respond everyday to God’s call as they embrace the challenging work of bringing about God’s vision.
